Building Strong Board Leadership (For RCDs)

Your Board, Inspired

The most successful board members have both the confidence and know-how to serve their organizations. This class offers the ABCs of building an inspired, engaged board to help the RCD achieve its goals. Topics include an overview of board duties, new member recruitment and orientation, and tips for keeping members engaged and accountable.

Additional handouts and tools for "Building the Board You Need" are accessible to those who have a Memberclicks account. Got to the "Resources" tab, then from the drop-down click on Capacity Building Tools.
Communicating with Our Stakeholders - Getting the Message Across (For RCDs)

Communications Roll-Out

Let’s make RCDs the best kept secret no longer! By popular demand, CARCD has created a shared communications and messaging platform that RCDs can use as a base to build their own marketing and communications programs. This presentation will introduce the tools and how to customize them for your RCD. The session is also the introductory session for the Communications Academy online course that will run January-March 2019

RCD Capacity Day Breakout Sessions

Revenue That Rocks - Developing Strong Support for Your Work (For RCDs)

Developing a Revenue Plan and Functional Budget

Discuss alternative ways to think about and create your annual budget. Understand your existing revenue sources and how they might be expanded. Explore potential new sources and create a revenue plan and path forward. Bring your questions and experience with lots of opportunity for conversation in this very interactive session.
Communicating with Our Stakeholders - Getting the Message Across (For RCDs)

Community Conservation

RCDs are public agencies. Why, how, and when is it important to ask the community about natural resource priorities and how they connect to other community needs? How does your RCD define “the community”? Even for RCDs without a tax base, gathering from your district can help you create new relationships, set priorities, energize the RCD, and strengthen your funding applications.

Building Strong Board Leadership (For RCDs)

Board Financial Oversight

Do your eyes glaze over when someone drops a balance sheet or a profit and loss statement on the table in front of you? You know every board member should understand the finances of the RCD, but what does that really mean? This primer will help you know what to pay attention to and how to ask the right questions to keep your RCD on track.
Revenue That Rocks - Developing Strong Support for Your Work (For RCDs)

Community Fundraising

Grassroots fundraising often begins with a simple request for funds from those who know your RCD. This session will outline the steps to developing an annual fundraising cycle including planning the campaign, identifying donors, cultivating their interest, asking for donations, and thanking donors.
Communicating with Our Stakeholders - Getting the Message Across (For RCDs)

Presenting Your RCD, Presenting Yourself

From what you wear to how you stand, successful presentations and in-person meetings are about more than PowerPoint slides and talking points. Intercultural communications expert Lillian Tsai will provide pro tips to help you better understand who you are talking with, how they might be perceiving you, and how to make an impression with groups of all sizes.

Fee for Service Planning

How to add revenue value and diversification to your RCD Income Budget. A refresher of the legal underpinning of FFS and defining "not for profit entities' in the RCD law. Using this background, we'll go through the nuts and bolts of a case example. Bring your questions and experience with lots of opportunity for conversation in this very interactive session.
Communicating with Our Stakeholders - Getting the Message Across (For RCDs)

Storytelling Workshop

Many RCDs crave the skillset of storytelling. They recognize the potential value of good storytelling in helping community members and funders understand, appreciate and support the work of RCDs. While most RCDs appreciate the inherent value of storytelling, they are not well-prepared to integrate the practice day to day. This training will introduce ideas to help individuals who’ve generally had little or no formal communications training become more confident and skillful in their use of storytelling in promoting their RCD and its important work in their own words
