Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District has responded to increased development by becoming a local leader in urban agriculture and local food systems.

On California’s North Coast, Humboldt County RCD is the primary agency working on the renowned Salt River Watershed restoration project. In Southern California, Coachella Valley RCD works directly with producers in underserved communities to increase irrigation efficiency.

CARCD continued the tradition of bringing together the conservation community from around the state at the 73rd Annual CARCD Conference in San Diego from November 14-17, 2018.

Many Resource Conservation Districts are at the cutting edge in pilot projects and creating programs to incentivize and provide technical assistance for carbon farming and healthy soils projects.

The Glenn County Resource Conservation District has been reaching out to future conservationists for over a decade with the RCD Connects with Kids program and, for the last two years, has partnered with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to help students focus in on soil health.

In 2015 the Valley Fire burned over 76,000 acres  in Lake County and was the third largest fire in California at the time. After the fire, Lake County RCD worked to distribute seedlings which were planted in 2017 and 2018 to help jumpstart reforestation and soil health efforts.
